1995 Hanjo

Hanjo by Zeami & Yukio Mishima, The Sphinx Theatre Company, The Studio Theatre, London and Touring in the U.K.

Hanjo is a bittersweet love story of the dream and reality of romantic love. Eastern ritual and western realism meet in this bold and exciting production of a modern international classic. The haunting beauty of the traditional art of the Noh play by Zeami is brought up-to-date by Yukio Mishima and in this production Zeami and Mishima’s version of Hanjo was adapted to our time. Hiroko met the director of the Sphinx, Sue Parish, after the first night of Qi Affinities and was asked to design the set & costumes for this production.
